Day 3

1/5/12
Journal: Day 3
This morning we awoke early to go to Orange Walk to the Labinia Mayan ruins which was 2hr from the campground. We hopped on the bus at 8am and arrived at Orange Walk at around 10am. From there we took a tour boat/speed boat 1 ½ hours down river to Labinia. On the way we were awed at the greatness of God's creation with a diverse population of plant life and animals along the river. We saw a couple of crocodiles, several species of bird, and another odd animal that runs on water. When we reached Labinia we had a delicious lunch which consisted of rice and beans, chicken, potato salad, bananas, plantains, and fruit juices. After lunch we hiked up the trail through the jungle to several different Mayan ruins; each differencing in size and structure. Along the way we were greeted with a pack of howler monkeys who sounded more than happy to see us by the sound of their whaling. One of the temples allowed for people to climb to its ridiculously steep incline to the peak and enjoy and an amazing view over the jungle and the river. After that breathing taking experience and several 100 pictures later we headed back to the boat and back to the bus in Orange Walk. After another 2hr bus ride back home, I took another reinvigorating cold shower and ate a delicious supper of tortillas, rice, and beans. Later we hung around and talk awhile and then headed to bed after a long yet rewarding day.
